PQCC were contracted to remove lead-based coating from five areas of a water tower in South Australia to allow modification works to proceed.

With traditional scaffolding and encapsulation not feasible, and chemical removal proving unsuccessful, our team developed an alternative approach using vacuum blasting to safely remove approximately 6 m² of lead-based coating.

Working from a crane box at height presented additional challenges. To maximise equipment efficiency and minimise hose runs, the blast unit and vacuum recovery system were positioned on the platform beneath the vessel.

This approach allowed our team to carry out the work efficiently while maintaining control of the removed coating and meeting the requirements of the project.
